The Network of Complementary Schools, Inc. is a group of diverse schools, both public and private, which has joined together to serve their students in a unique way by sharing their specialized programs. These schools, understanding that the number and range of options which they can individually provide their students is limited, realized that by pooling their offerings they could present their students a wider range of quality programs. Structured on an "intensive" basis so that the student focuses on a single topic of is fully involved in one internship, most of the Network programs are offered because they highlight a special strength or resource of a particular school -- often based on geographical or historical factors. For example, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, a student might participate in an Hispanic culture program, while in New York City a student might be part of a mock trial competition.

Our Mission
The Network of Complementary Schools is a group of public and independent schools that offer its students and faculty opportunities to experience learning through varied programs at other Network schools. Exposure to specialized programs, as well as cultural and geographic diversity, help participants develop new competencies and enhance confidence and personal growth.

You Can Do Both This Year
Both students and faculty can participate for only the cost of transportation because your school is a member of The Network of Complementary Schools, Inc.

From the students' point of view, the selection of a program is not just limited to those their own schools offer but extends to the diverse Network options available all across the country and in Canada. Participating students have the opportunity to experience a new and different community as well as the excitement and challenge of a program differing from that offered in their home school. Students travel to the other school locations for a period of two to four weeks and live in school dormitories (at residential schools) or with local families. They meet not only students from the host school but also students from other Network schools who have come to a particular school because of interest in a specific area of study.

Faculty members who would like to explore the opportunities for professional development provided by the Network should talk with the Network Advisor at their school. A Professional Development grant fund is available to help meet expenses of faculty exchanges.

The Network contact person or counseling office at each school has additional information on this unique educational opportunity.
